Blog is back and revamped!

A sincere apology for the 4+ months of inactivity! But hey, it is now back and revamped! Hope you like the new look'n'feel! : )

Since starting out on my OE in April this year, I could hardly find much spare time to do my own stuffs. So when I do have the time, of course I have to prioritize and unfortunately blogging must be put aside.

The other thing that was bugging me was the organisation of my blog's template. Initially after the first month of my OE, of course I would have loved to blog about my experience. I was actually debating whether to open a new blog for the OE or to just keep posting onto this blog. Ideally I would like to keep everything together, with links at the top to separate posts belonging to different topics. This means I can have one just for OE. Unfortunately I could not find any blogger gadgets for this. So in the end, this kind of helped to demotivate me to get back to blogging anytime soon.

Until....TODAY!!! : D I guess deep inside me, the problem I described above just subconsciously bugs me! (lol yes, truly showing my true developer colour isn't it!). So somehow, for no reason at all, I got onto blogger and clicked into the new 'template designer'. Initially I was just clicking around playing with the themes. I then noticed the word 'tab'! Ah ha! Just the thing I was wishing for! @.@ After a few more clicks and experimenting, YES, it's achievable!!! I was sooooo happy! : ) Seriously! I was so happy with the tab, so happy with the new templates, I ended up just sitting there playing with the CSS for a good couple of hours, to get it working and looking correctly!  (N.B. - this is the first time I explored blogger designer and CSS customization. So pretty happy and satisfied!)

As you can see now the tab list is located above, just below the heading! I will be picking the 'main' labels that identifiy the separate topics and add it to the tab list above. I hope you will find the new look, cleaner, slicker and easier to found things too! : D

p.s. - Apologies to my dear blog, but I hope you like your new look and that the wait was worth it! Shall now be updating you a bit more often! : ) I have loads and loads to write....until the next time!

Quote: Something Simple...

Due to my new role at work, I have recently been doing some mentoring work to others. Throughout the different questions I've answered on various days....suddenly one day at work, my wonderful pea brain reminded me of the following:
"Sometimes only simple questions need to be asked to get things solved!"
Really...seriously....it works and saved a lot of time! haha and I was so glad! I only needed to ask one simple question to my 'student' and viola (!) in just a min or two, he realised what he has done wrong himself and answered his own question! heh! Go 'simplicity'! : D

The Start of My Big OE.....

After more than a year of perseverance and waiting after waiting after more waiting.....I finally finally finally (!) get to do my OE in UK! : )

Of course things are never as smooth or as ideal as one hopes. In order to make this OE to happen, it certainly didn’t come without some pain and agony.  The story I’ll leave it to another blog post. But one thing for sure is that I certainly would not have made it, if it wasn’t for ALL THE HELP I received from some really really awesome and rocking allies! : ) Thank you all indeed.

My departure from NZ truned out to be extremely rush. The reason is because once I get to UK, I will be working for the same company that I have worked for in NZ (although it'll be a different position). So the date of my departure is dependent upon my employer. However, the dilemma was that just 4 weeks before my departure, work suddenly asked if I can leave 2 weeks earlier!!! Apparently they urgently require resources for a project in Norway (which at the same time, it means I suddenly found out that they are planning to send me over there straight away too!!!). : O A double (shocking) surprise!

So all of a sudden I had to rethink about plans and organise and pack my luggage in a very very rush manner. Unfortunately farewell activities with friends had to be trimmed as well. : ( To be honest, I never felt so unprepared for a trip (or plans) in my life before!!! But nonetheless, I made it and fortunately still in one piece too (a big thanks to mummy and daddy for making things so much easier)! : )

Air NZ Premium Econmy / First class spcial area

Anyway back to my actual OE. On the night of 5th April 2010 I left NZ on a midnight flight, sitting in the Premium Economy class (which I managed to score from work : D). At the Auckland airport, there’s actually a special check-in counters and areas for Premium Economy / First class (see above pic). You can even go to the NZ custom via its special lift as well (but you lose seeing the big gate where you can bid farewell to Aoteaora). Anyway too bad I knew about this too late, so I actually check-in at the normal counter…but I did use the special way, through their lounge to go through to customs tho. : P (coz who knows when I'll have the next chance to fly Prem Econ in NZ! hehe)

Once I aboarded the plane, I found that I was actually placed on the first row in the Premium Economy class. Which means i have extra-extra-extra leg room, as the Air NZ Premieum Economy seats already has more leg room than the normal Economy seats. However one observation is that the seats are not as wide as the ones on Qantas tho. So it is still a 3 seats row on the side. Apparently the food are the same as Business class. You get a 4-course meal and they are all served individually by the air hostess and in ceramic, not filmsy plastic! So let me show you what I had here! : D

Left: Dinner (we had Opera Cake too!)
Center: Evening coffee with choc mint
Right: Breakfast, blueberry sauce on french toast kind of thing

My first destionation is Hong Kong. My original home! : ) This is the perfect excuse for me to stop by there for a couple of days before I really fly to UK to start my OE. To see friends, to buy some 'essential' stuffs before I fly off to leave on my own! : \ hehe And also a 2 days real holiday break (well at home, a place I'm familiar with) before I fly to the much estranged UK and start work straight away!

Destination HK here I come....

I just wanted to blog something tonight, feel like 'yay' I 'finally' get some free time for myself, after a hard hard week at work esp today.

This song '半斤八兩' is probably the MOST FITTING song for my recent weeks and months at work. haha This is too good an all-time classic for all HKers. : P (well if u don't, here's your chance!)

A Week of "Difference"

Keeping this a short post...as I am badly staying up late in the middle of the night AGAIN!!! But I just really really wanted to document about this week, as it is a really really worthwhile to make a 'mark' for this week and rubberstamp the date!

You see it's another one of those really funny things in life. When people say "What a week of difference made", I can really feel it REALLY HAPPENING for me this week. It's kindda feel like a roller coaster ride that you normally expects to happen within a month of time...but it happened to me within a week! : O

Not going to give the details here (for fear of the impact it 'may' make...haha don't want to jinx it). But I can still remember clearly on Monday, the start of the week, when i was still feeling all blue & grey. Especially when I got asked the dreaded question...I was lost in my answer and reasoning.

Middle of the week....still doing what I can......as that's the only part that is within my control. Also had some really nice friends helping me along the way!!! And then suddenly.....'a remarkable' breakthrough! : O And then 'another breakthrough' towards the end of the week!!! I couldn't believe my luck at all! (although all good things take cost...but I was very very lucky that I was able to handle it and it all went through smoothly!)

By the end of the week, I can finally see a small opening through the grey sky that I saw at the beginning of the week! : ) A feeling of small relive! I won't be totally relived until it's all finalized and confirmed tho! But at least....things are progressing and can see it going somewhere! Yay! I'll definitely take this as my 4 years anniversary in the working-life present (which was on Sat, end of the week)! : )

Another contrasting thing within the week that I experienced was that at the beginning of the week, I sadly farewelled a visiting friend off in a dinner. At the end of the week, I was welcoming another visiting friend of mine warmly and happily in a dinner. haha incidentally both dinners were on the same part of the street, very close to one another.

So I don't know...is it what 'a week of difference' made OR is it 'a week of Differences' i.e. a week filled with differences...differences of emotions and feelings and moods and events. haha I shall let u decide. Meanwhile, trying not to dwell on it too much >o< but really hoping hard the progress will continue, moving on!!! I really really hope so....!

Really wanted to write my 2010 New Years resolution...but given the time...I shall embark on it next time (but in the near future) and do a quickie here instead.

This time I would like to share a song that somehow...all of a sudden I feel quite 'related to' while I was driving on the road last Sunday.

The song '港九情' by 張繼聰 wasn't actually my favourite song in the album nor captured me too much at all from his "B.C." album (unlike 永和號 or 這一秒). I actually enjoyed this album of his quite a lot. Has its own flavour, where it was themed around nostalgic in H.K. The songs are not bad and quite unique (at least more unique than a lot of the HK commercial K songs out there nowadays).

However it was not until when my 'Little Black" (my loyal 1st Gen Nano) decided to randomly play this song on Sunday...that I was suddenly captivated by the lyrics. The lyrics is not very complicated at all. But just that I kind of suddenly 'clicked' and found the lyrics to be quite suitable / well fitted for people with friends / loves ones overseas in another country. And of course definitely MORE well fitting for me as it mentioned about the 'features' of H.K. (that a lot of people might have taken for granted).

See if you can related to it too... : ) Enjoy!

I know you wanna stay, but everyone will go away

I really wanna stay, those happy time will fade away
(Full lyrics can be found here)

Here's the MV for the song:
