This song '半斤八兩' is probably the MOST FITTING song for my recent weeks and months at work. haha This is too good an all-time classic for all HKers. HKers 無可能唔識呢首歌!!! : P (well if u don't, here's your chance!)

歌曲分享: 港九情

Really wanted to write my 2010 New Years resolution...but given the time...I shall embark on it next time (but in the near future) and do a quickie here instead.

This time I would like to share a song that somehow...all of a sudden I feel quite 'related to' while I was driving on the road last Sunday.

The song '港九情' by 張繼聰 wasn't actually my favourite song in the album nor captured me too much at all from his "B.C." album (unlike 永和號 or 這一秒). I actually enjoyed this album of his quite a lot. Has its own flavour, where it was themed around nostalgic in H.K. The songs are not bad and quite unique (at least more unique than a lot of the HK commercial K songs out there nowadays).

However it was not until when my 'Little Black" (my loyal 1st Gen Nano) decided to randomly play this song on Sunday...that I was suddenly captivated by the lyrics. The lyrics is not very complicated at all. But just that I kind of suddenly 'clicked' and found the lyrics to be quite suitable / well fitted for people with friends / loves ones overseas in another country. And of course definitely MORE well fitting for me as it mentioned about the 'features' of H.K. (that a lot of people might have taken for granted).

歌曲分享: 給十年後的我

Just wanted to share a song today by 薛凱琪 (Fiona Sit) called 給十年後的我. Interestingly when this song first came out in Fiona's album, I didn't pay much attention to it. However in Fiona's last album called, 'Smile', this song was added as a bonus track and remade as a duet featuring 湯駿業 accompanied with a piano only. This time it caught my attention straight away! Every time when I listen to it, it left me with a deep feeling, in close rapport with its audience. I am not sure why I like this version so much more. May be it's because it was done only in piano version, which once again appealed to my feelings. Or may be it's because it was redone as a duet with the harmony of a male and a female that made it so much better this time!?

黃偉文 (Wyman) has once again wrote some beautiful and direct lyrics. The song title, 給十年後的我 (to me in 10 years time), already gave the context of the song. If you read the lyrics below....haha I guess really it does make you think about life and time. These 'would be' the questions that you would ask and wonder in the present....what it'll be like in 10 years time:

#100 愛與夢飛行

Post number 100!!! : O Of course this 100th blog post deserves to be something different, something special to me, something I love....

So let me share something from my past, something from my pre-blog, pre-web 2.0, pre-knowing-much-about-computer age.....

愛與夢飛行
This is an album by Leo Ku (古巨基) released back in May, 1998. What I want to focus on this time is not the music though, but rather some aesthetic appreciation!

I believe I first learn of this album when I was walking pass HMV in a shopping mall in HK. I saw a big stand up poster of Leo's new album and immediately fell in love with the art work (yes a rare thing from me).


What first caught my attention was the title of the album, 愛與夢飛行 (Flying Love and Dreams). This immediately led me into a chain of thoughts. Love & Dream.....definitely something that most people would not only long for, but hope to become successful in both subjects.

And then looking at the poster itself, I just love how he held the model aeroplane, looking as if he is aiming to fly it up high (which totally portrayed the idea I mentioned above). The poster contains powerful symbols put together in a very simple way. The green background just gives you the peace of thoughts (although I am not sure about the green....but probably because green isn't one of my favourite colours!).

Seriously I stood there for at least a few minutes, thinking about the album title and the poster itself. I just love the name, the idea and the image (and probably more importantly because this is something I believe in, so obviously I was able to link to it)! And since that day, the quote '愛與夢飛行' and the image of the poster just got stuck in my head. (Which is a nice thought really! Somehow gives you a sort of positive feeling towards life.....for me anyway! : P )

Special Note:
I only found out about this tonight while searching for information on this album. It turns out that my artistic sense has 'some' taste to it (if not unique)! : P Because apparently Jan Lamb (林海峰) designed the cover and packaging of this album! As the blogger in the following blog post stated so!

Now I'm actually interested in looking at the actual content of the CD box to see how it was packed and the pictures that were used in the album!

Music-wise:
I think I would be left with a funny feeling if I don't mention about the songs in this album at all (esp. as this is an album I enjoyed and one that not much people knew/remembered about it). So here I go.

On the plus side, this album is not bad at all. Although it wasn't 'that' popular or 'that' famous (it couldn't live up to the over-whelming hype create from his previous album with the song 歡樂今宵). But in general I feel that the album was trying to do something different (and for that I do give credit for). The album is pleasant to listen to (for anyone who get a chance to 'dig' up this album hehe).

P.S. - haha OOPS! This is actually the #100 posts (including drafts post that I've 1/2 written or never or not yet published)! Nonetheless I guess I can still celebrate on 'initiated' the start of 100 blog posts! hehe

歌曲分享: 最佳損友

Prelude:
This blog was originally dated on 4th Nov 2008....I never got the chance to finish it.....so here it is (as I feel like doing just a small music blog tonight).

Song:
Funny enough there are some things on this Earth where you have to experience it in order to get its real meaning. You see I always have a disbelieve in this theory. I thought that if a person is aware enough, they should be able to learn from the mistake of others; rather than having the need to experience it themselves in order for them to understand. Let's say smoking for example, of course one would hope that you don't really 'have to' try smoking first before you can say 'no' to it and to understand the harm it'll do to your body.

In general I still believe in my theory. Because I mean, who would want bad experiences to occur every time when they learn of something new, right!? If one is observant enough, one should be able to learn from others.

So how does all these relate to the song 最佳損友 here? Well this is related to the realisation I had one day. The fact is although you can learn from others. However, if you did went through the experience yourself, you 'usually' found yourself understanding the whole situation in a whole lot more sense clearer. Probably because the reality hits you a whole whole lot harder this way!

You see I thought I understood the lyrics in the song 最佳損友 when it first came out. Yea, great meaningful lyrics there. But as I experienced some life lectures over the years, one day I came to listen to the song again and the lyrics just 'click'. Suddenly the lyrics means a whole lot more sense to me. And I was going 'ahh' and 'ooh' to the lyrics, relating to it, and found myself peeling understanding the true meaning of each sentence in the song.

So I realised that although we should try to learn from others, but if it happened to you, it's ok! Although it might have hit you hard, but it's ok because you know that you'll remember it for a long long time. And that'll make reminding you not to make the same mistake easier, because it hit you harder! : )

Anyway this song has great great lyrics written by Wyman. The lyrics are just so so true! Almost every sentence in the song I can just say YES to it! Luv it! (Sorry to those who can't read Chinese) And Eason...haha do i need to phrase him more? He just performed the song so so well, really controlling and expressing the feelings and emotions at the right place and the right time within the song. Making the song more emotional as the music became more intense towards the end! Another great Eason song! (Well done Eason, Wyman and Eric Kwok! Great song by this combination again!) For those who haven't listen to this song for a while, go on listen to it now, see if the lyrics make more sense to you too! ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY!

Wow can't believe I haven't done a 歌曲分享 for 5 months now!!! Let me share one of my all time favourite 'heart sour' (心酸) song,
半天假 by 許志安 (Andy Hui).

Not too sure why, but I remember even since the first time I listened to the song....the first two lines of the song, its melody, is already caught in my head. I actually like the verses more than the chorus. Add on the lyrics of the song, it is simple and direct.

I just love the melody and the lyrics of the verses. Every time when I listen to the song, as soon as I get into the first two lines of the song, my heart will be filled with slight sour feeling. sighhh it's sad! But of course the lyrics in the chorus is actually more positive and encouraging. : )

歌曲分享: 可不可以

Another song I would like to share and to bring back your memory to (of course only if u are like me, one of those who grew up in the 90s in HK). Yes the days of the 四大天王 (The Four Heavenly Kings).

Today I would like to bring back the song 可不可以 by 劉德華 (Andy Lau). Recently this old classic has been flowing back to my mind every so often. haha Whenever this song is being played in my head, I can still see the the image of the 1990s 劉德華 singing this song in his "orange" jacket and singing the song to the audience with his very own "劉德華 style" (hah I wish I can find a picture of his orange jacket on the web, it should be the one he wore in the 1990 劲歌金曲 or in other HK awards ceremony).

Anyway, back to the song, this was probably one of my first favourite out of all the Andy Lau's songs. Lyrics is simple but sad and definitely very easy to remember (lol I can seriously verify this as I remembered I could sing most of this song off by heart back when I was still 7!!! haha).

I can't really say more about this song, it's just a lovely old classic in the HK pop history. Enjoy! : )

Music is the Essence of (My) Life...(& 歌曲分享: 我們的歌)

I could still remember last Tuesday night, after attending my last Toastmaster meeting.....
(yes....I can't believe I have finally taken the bold step, be brave enough, to say I'm quitting Toastmaster!!!! And so that I can pursuit my other goals as well!!! : P)

So after the meeting has finished, I headed out to get my car. I got into my car and hooked up my "Little Black" (nano) to the car kit before I pulled the handbrake to make my way back home. While I was driving I was having this feeling.....hmm....you know the feeling when you have finally accomplished something and you come to the end of the that road? Kind of like the feeling we have when we graduate!? Happy & proud but sad at the same time! That was the exact feeling I had for the night while driving! hehe

Funny enough the music was shuffled to just the right mood for me! haha so I was singing my heart out while driving back home!!! : O And it was a wonderful feeling!!! Each song that played, I sang to it with my full heart! And when I got back home...I suddenly realised something:

What makes music so great? Why do people love music, love singing so much?

而是因為...音樂能讓我們埋置我們的感覺在裡面。

It is not because that music sings out our feelings,
but it is because music allows us to pour our feelings and express our feelings in the song!!!

hehe think I sound a bit too 'philosophical' here.... hehehe but see the subtle difference I am trying to explain here!? : O

hehe but I believe this is why people love music, people love singing so much. Or rather...me...why I love listening to music and singing to songs so much! And after singing a good song that fits into my mood, it makes me feel awesome!

歌曲分享: What Goes Around...Comes Around

Prelude:
Have been listening to JT's (Justin Timberlake) album for quite a while now....and it is definitely a very good album to 'boil' on (Cantonese saying)!!! (And it surely does help to keep me awake during those long after lunch hours at work.....or during the dazzy cold cold Winter morning! ><") I definitely 'highly recommend' this album, Justin Timberlake - Future Sex / Love Sounds album (for those who still haven't listen to it yet)! If you like something upbeat, something different from previous 'fast' songs....give this one a try!!! I definitely enjoy the concept of the album...as you listen through the songs....running a theme and continuing a story as each track goes by..... JT has definitely showed his creativity and maturity in this album I think.

As to the songs in the album..originally I loved the song "My Love". As I continue "boiling' via the album....the more I listen to it......I found myself loving the songs "Sexy Back", "Love Stone" and in particular "What Goes Around...Comes Around".

What Goes Around...Comes Around:
Love the sound effects of the song...right from the beginning you hear the catchy..."Indian benjo" sound (sorry for my incorrect description...may be you can think of a better word?)...and I guess the 'lyrics' just really got into me....(of course, as well as the up beat tempo and rhythem of the song)!

I love the following part of the song....heehe have been singing it in the car....(funny enough some of the words just 'fit in perfectly' to my mood for the last couple of months). The lyrics + the beat + the way JT is singing it...expresses the emotion perfectly:

歌曲分享: 回到過去

I guess I started to really enjoy and to like this song since the beginning of this year, while I was listening to it at work....! : P

Again a classic love song by 周杰倫. But what made this one special to me was once again the 'mood' of the song. In particular I love the plugging of the guitar in the intro, it really captured my attention to the song. It then lead to a quiet and lonely first verse, slowly building up to a sweet and powerful melody in the chorus and finally an emotional last verse just before the chorus is repeated; music + lyrics, telling us the story and frustration of the guy! (And I guess as I become 'older' and 'wiser....the song title "回到過去" does have a meaning for me! : P All the memorable memories from the past! eheh may be another reason why I like the song! haha)

The guitar intro was especially memorable to me after watching Jay's '無與倫比'演唱會 with his farmers look! And of course only after researching for the song did I find out that the lyrics was written by 劉畊宏!!! The lyrics are quite good too, mixing well with the melody of the song, linking well with the mood. (Gee....both are so so talented!!!! ><") So I would say this song is a pretty good piece of work between these two good friends! : P A job well done! So another Jay Chow's classic love song...which you may have forgotten. But may be now that you listened to it again, may be you too may have a different 'feel' on it and find the song not bad too!? Perhaps!? ehhe : P

(母親節 Edition) 歌曲分享: You Raise Me Up

I remembered I listened to this song before....but just recently both my mum and I have been hearing this song on radio and tv and so I finally looked up the song on the web! (Yip I can't believe why I didn't listen to this song when it was first released....must've been too busy back in varsity, because this song is just too nice and meaningful to ignore!!!!! : O)

Another great classic ballad song from Westlife. I would probably agree that it's one of their best songs too!!!! Simply because the composition of the song is nice and simple and meaningful...with the violin in the interlude...adding the Ireland feel to the song (which made the song appeared to be tailored for Westlife). No wonder it was used as the comeback hit in 2005 after Brian has left the band.

歌曲分享: Endless Road

haha yes I am renaming the title to be "歌曲分享" as "歌曲回顧" seems to imply sharing of very very old songs.....which I don't necessary do.......as the song I would like to "分享" today was only released in 2004:

Personally, I found 第二天堂 to be the best JJ's album for me (to date). hehe May be this is because it is the first JJ album I listen to....and probably because I enjoy quite a few songs inside this album that I both love and can listen to for a long time e.g. 第二天堂, 豆漿油條, 江南...

However the first track in the album that caught my attention when I first listen to it was actually "Endless Road". It is the last track of the album and this is the English version of the song 害怕 (which is also featured in the middle of this album). I believe there are a lot of people who love the song 害怕, but for me the English version was the one that first attracted me and is still my preferred one! : P

Why? haha well I found that not only is the music nice but once again (I love the) AWESOME lyrics....the lyrics totally blends in with the mood of the music. Together with JJ's performance of the song....it really does convey the sadness that is hiding inside his heart and afraid of his loneliness and to face the truth of the break up. In particular I love these two verses:

A crystal forming in the eye
Maybe this would be the last
A winding path down my face
Till I begin to taste the bitterness inside

Why am I still holding back my tears
In this loneliness there's nothing to fear
Every chord still seems a wonder
How we could be together
Every time I ask if this would be the last

"金曲回顧" rename to "歌曲回顧"

While I was driving to work this morning I just had a sudden realisation that the name "金曲回顧" is totally wrong! It sounds as if I'm only introducing music back in the 70s and 80s! -.-" Which was not my intention at all!

Hence I have renamed to "歌曲回顧", where I will be introducing or more correctly to 'recall' your memories on some of the good songs that you may have listened to in the past. And by 'past' I seriously mean 'in the immediate past'...any songs that are not recent, any songs that are off the 'current latest pop chart'!!! (Or perhaps to 'introduce' you to good songs that you have missed out in the past!)

Yeah "歌曲回顧"...that's what I meant!!! : P

Why "金曲回顧"?

hehe Have been contemplating for a while now to start writing some posts about music!
So yes...today....finally I have written my first post! : )

You see I have been a listener of music for a long time and have been listening to music (by music here I should emphasize on songs on the pop chart/tv/with a singer on a show etc! haha as I'm sure EVERYONE would have listen to 'some' sort of 'music' since they are very small as well! haha)

Anyway back to my blog...in particular I have been listening to HK pop ever since when I was small! There are a lot of old HK pop music that I still remember and love (and I should add that probably because I have been influenced by the collection my parents have as well! -.-") haha and I guess because I am a nostalgic person as well!!!

So I hope to start off a series of posts called "金曲回顧", just every now and then when I suddenly remember a song (haha sorry about the 老土名)! I shall use my blog as an opporutnity to introduce and as a commemoration of these good old music that were once knew and sung by everyone back in the good old days!

P.S. - I also hope to start writing some comments about new albums and songs that I have listened to as well. Please watch out the space for further posts later! : P


金曲回顧:

藍雨 by 張學友:
This song really is one of my all time favourite!!! (Hence making it my first "金曲" to be "回顧"! I actually first listened to this song (more correctly the first time I remember I heard this song) was back in 1995 when Jacky Cheung came to New Zealand to do his world tour. It was sung during the encores, and the song just sounded SO FAMILIAR to me and it's so so nice.

This is actually another 改编歌曲 from Japan. It was originally written and sung by 德永英明 and the song is called "Rainy Blue". (If you get a chance, try the Jap original version too! A lot of people love the Jap version!!!) The cantonese lyrics was written by 林振強 (another wonderful writer)!

What I love about the song is the 'feeling' that is generated from both the music and the lyrics. Both the music and the lyrics are so "貼切" that it really does convey the feeling of 'blue rain'!

The music starts off quiet where you feel the guy is slowly gathering his feeling..."灰灰的天　空空的街 千串細雨點". It slowly grows into the chorus where you feel the guy is showing a feeling of 'lost'..."冷冷雨哦　沒焦點因找不到妳 冷冷雨低泣彷彿要等妳經過". With the wonderful electric guitar playing during the middle of the music, conveying the growth of the 'blueness', it then finally reach the climax
雨點不清楚　妳已拋低我
仍共疾風東奔西走的找妳
彷彿不知不再會有結果
妳永不清楚　妳那天經過
留下萬千追憶一生封鎖我
今天可否會想起我
showing the guy's strong and final emotion for the girl, the music then dies down to show the sudden realisation that "the love is all over now, and he's back into reality".

Of course credits need to be given to 張學友 for conveying the 'blueess' so well by handling the changing of the 'notes' and the 'emotion' he puts and adds to the song so so well!!!
